Our Partnership Meetings are our main regular event for church leaders and others in ministry in the South West, and form the heartbeat of our Partnership. For this meeting, Richard and Catherine Haddow are kindly joining us, as we look together at this challenging subject matter.
Sadly, domestic abuse is common, even in churches. However, the ideas we have about what it involves are often inaccurate and this can mean we miss red flags and come to wrong conclusions.
When we do, we fail to protect the needy and vulnerable and we fail to call those causing harm to repentance and change. But, even if we do see and respond, our conservative theological convictions and handling of the bible can lead to pastoral care that does not reflect God’s heart for those who suffer.
